About

Knitgrrl Studio is the fiber studio, online shop and retail space of designer and author Shannon Okey, who has written more than 10 major-publisher knitting and crafts books. Most recently Shannon served as the editor of UK-based monthly print knitting magazine Yarn Forward. She has also written a column for knit.1 magazine, and contributed to many other magazines, including Spin Off, Knitscene, Yarn Market News, CRAFT, Adorn, Sew Hip and more.

Why buy local? Check out the 3/50 project link in the sidebar and discover how important it is to shop locally when you can. Knitgrrl Studio is here for you and your fiber-y needs! We were recently mentioned in the Cleveland Scene’s 2009 Best Of issue here.

Shannon teaches all over the US and Canada at shows and shops big and small, and always attracts a crowd. Not long ago, she co-taught on a Caribbean cruise with Debbie Stoller — if you think spindle-spinning is tough, try doing it on a big boat in bad weather as it lurches from side to side! Trust us, if she can teach under those conditions, the beautiful Knitgrrl Studio will be a snap by comparison…

She was a co-founder of a similar fiber-and-fabric workshop space in Lakewood, Ohio, but has expanded her reach in this new space at the Screw Factory building. The Screw Factory is now known as the Lake Erie Building at Templar Industrial Park, home to many artists’ studios and a wide variety of events, including open studios.
